Sadly, there will be no One Hot Second Holiday Show this year. Unfortunately, real life got in the way of our funny little hobby…
Instead, we present to you the Ghosts of Holiday Shows Past…
Enjoy! And have a wonderful holiday. We will see you in 2014!
Well, folks. We can finally share the photos from the first round of the “Parody Album Cover” project. We will think about starting round two sometime in the future. We welcome your suggestions for album covers for us to mock in the future – leave a comment! In the meantime…enjoy!
Thanks to Angel Jusay Photography for the pictures!
Remember that much talked about magazine interview we mentioned a while back? Well, mark your calendars – it is coming out in Boro Magazine on July 5th! Boro is an Astoria / Long Island City Art and Culture Magazine – yes, we are apparently considered art and/or culture. Go figure!
So pick up a copy of Boro in Queens for free or go check out their website on the 5th and see our ugly mugs splashed across the pages.
We would like to thank everyone who came out to support us for our show at SingleCut Beersmiths last week. We would especially like to thank SingleCut for having us!
They took a risk…and we think it paid off. Next up, One Hop Second beer – we need to make that happen folks. We will be posting video from the show for those of you who weren’t able to make it – and those who want to relive the magic. First up, our original song, “Sensitive Man”
Over here at One Hot Second HQ – we love Game of Thrones. Yes, we read the books before the HBO show came out. But we jumped on the opportunity to have our fans choose our “house sigil”. Here were some of the options:
And the winner is…
You can call us a lot of things – comedians, musicians, parody artists, drunks, lazy bastards, philanthropists…wait, what was that last one? Philanthropists? Yes, it’s true. One Hot Second is proud to be donating half of the proceeds from downloads of select songs in our music library to the Fender Music Foundation. The mission of the foundation is to “strengthen the state of music education, people who believe music is an integral part of society and want to make music more accessible to everyone.” Would you like to get behind that? Yeah, we thought you would.
How do you do it? Well, go to our Reverb Nation profile page and pick one of the songs with the red ribbon and the heart on it to download. This only works through our profile page, it won’t work if you purchase the download through the store on our website. Half of your purchase will be donated directly to charity. You get some great, funny tunes and you help out a worthy cause. It’s a win-win situation!
We also suggest following the Fender Music Foundation on Twitter and Facebook and spread the word via social media to your family and friends. What are you waiting for? Let’s raise some money for charity!
So another great band cover parody we photographed – N.W.A. – if this was turned down by the magazine article, can you imagine what they chose?!? Just think about it…let it sink in…yea!!!
And if the magazine article coming up next week wasn’t enough – we are climbing the comedy charts on Reverb Nation! We are currently ranked #12 in New York City! Who would have thought it? You can help us break into the top 10 by going to our Reverb Nation profile and becoming a fan, listening to our songs, watching our videos, etc. Every little bit helps! Thanks and stay tuned for more awesomeness!
So, the magazine feature on us is being published on April 1st – we know what you are thinking and NO, this is not an April Fool’s joke. Things are actually picking up for us. And to give you a taste of what is to come, we are releasing our first parody album cover photo today! This is just the tip of the iceberg…just the tip…
If we decided to be a Bee Gees cover band, what would we call ourselves? The Bee Jays? What do you think?
So, it tentatively looks like we are going to be profiled in a local magazine. We know, we are shocked too! So, the idea was bandied about that since we are a parody comedy band that we should do some parody band photos. The discussion on our Facebook page reached epic proportions when it came to suggestions. Here are a few of our favorites:
This one would probably require a time machine…
This on the other hand…
Astoria’s most dangerous group?
Hmmm, but who would be Carnie? Just kidding, we know…
Much like the “Pretty Boy Floyd” photo that is the ‘feature image’ of this post (all the way at the top) – this is NOT happening…unless we get some flesh colored body suits…
What are your thoughts? This may become an ongoing ‘thing’ that we do. We would love to hear what album cover you think we should parody. Leave a comment or let us know over at our Facebook page or on Twitter!
Sometimes a moment happens in time, and comedy gold is born. Enjoy.
While we still try to sort out how we are going to do a Valentine’s Day show this year, we have a special item on sale in our online store for all of you fans of Morrissey and The Smiths.
There is even an organic ladies t-shirt free of harsh chemical bleaches or dyes – because we know you have sensitive skin. Order yours now in our online store. Because nothing says “Valentine’s Day” like The Smiths!
We would like to thank all of the folks who came out and made our Holiday Spectacular such a hit this year! We’ve been doing this for six years and it still doesn’t get old. We raised a lot of money for charity, drank a lot of booze, and had quite a few laughs…here is a little portion of what you missed if you weren’t there…
Just in time for that last minute holiday shopping, our holiday CD – The Premature Immaculation – One Hot Second Live for the Holidays – is now available for download! Be warned, it does contain language not suitable for children – unless you swear a lot around children, in which case, our music won’t be much of a change.
We will also be selling actual CD copies (like the one you see above) at our Holiday Spectacular for $5 each! Yes, five friggin’ dollars! After that, you will need to contact us about ordering a physical copy. If you want to get a CD at the show, please leave a comment here or on our Facebook page so we have an idea of how many to bring.
If you would rather download the MP3’s (complete with witty banter – hey, we are best experienced live) you can go HERE AND PURCHASE IT FOR DOWNLOAD!
To give you an idea of the classic holiday tunes you will be receiving, here is a video from last year’s show:
This clip of some slightly inebriated improvisation from last year’s holiday show was oddly prescient (for those of you who don’t know what that means, look it up!) as we were able to find a Pearl Jam holiday tune for this year’s show.
This video gives you a bit of a glimpse into our rehearsal and song writing process. Drink a bunch of beers, start playing a song, lyrics start coming out…there, the mystery is shattered.
We love Astoria, perhaps it is because two thirds of the band lives here, but it seemed like it was about time to create a shirt that reflected both our feelings and our reputation in the neighborhood.
You know you want one. So what are you waiting for? And remember, all profits from any store purchases before our Holiday Spectacular on December 15th will go to Hurricane Sandy relief efforts.
