Even though our beloved Crescent Lounge has closed, we are continuing our tradition of Halloween shows (8 years straight!) – and we are invading Manhattan!
Yes, we will be playing at Lovecraft! What better place to play a Halloween musical comedy show than a bar/restaurant inspired by horror writer HP Lovecraft? We will be debuting some new Halloween songs. Admission is free! We hope to see you there. Leave a comment and let us know if you are coming or head over to our Facebook page and RSVP.
The Crescent Lounge holds a special place in our heart. It is where we first played over 8 years ago. Now the business is changing hands. So chances are we will most likely not play there again. To say our goodbyes, we are playing “The Last Round at Crescent” tomorrow night, at 8 PM. Make it if you can.
We would love to see you there. If you want more information, check out the Facebook event! Crescent Lounge is located at 32-05 Crescent Street (at Broadway) in Astoria!
Well, folks. We can finally share the photos from the first round of the “Parody Album Cover” project. We will think about starting round two sometime in the future. We welcome your suggestions for album covers for us to mock in the future – leave a comment! In the meantime…enjoy!
Thanks to Angel Jusay Photography for the pictures!
We are playing a show…in the SUMMER! Yes, we know it is unusual. We usually take a hiatus during the Summer months. Why? Because it is hot and we prefer to drink beer and hang out. But this year, oh no, we are suffering through the heat and putting on a show – JUST FOR YOU!
We will be playing on Wednesday, July 24th at 7:30 PM at the one and only Crescent Lounge in Astoria, New York (32-05 Crescent Street). Admission is free! Check out the Facebook event and let us know that you are coming.
Remember, be there or we will never forgive you.
Remember that much talked about magazine interview we mentioned a while back? Well, mark your calendars – it is coming out in Boro Magazine on July 5th! Boro is an Astoria / Long Island City Art and Culture Magazine – yes, we are apparently considered art and/or culture. Go figure!
So pick up a copy of Boro in Queens for free or go check out their website on the 5th and see our ugly mugs splashed across the pages.
It is something that only gamers truly understand. Whatever horrible thing may be happening in real life, escaping into the game for a little while can change your frame of mind and leave you feeling relaxed…
And with that, we give you HALO, our original song dedicated to gamers…
What do you think?
A while back, we decided that a kazoo fit our needs for songs that required either a wind instrument, or synthesizers…or a kazoo. This decision culminated with the “Astoria Free Will Kazoo Chorus” – a group of fans who volunteered to play along with us on a cover of The Final Countdown by Europe. Because, you know, it works…
We would like to thank everyone who came out to support us for our show at SingleCut Beersmiths last week. We would especially like to thank SingleCut for having us!
They took a risk…and we think it paid off. Next up, One Hop Second beer – we need to make that happen folks. We will be posting video from the show for those of you who weren’t able to make it – and those who want to relive the magic. First up, our original song, “Sensitive Man”
You might ask yourself, “What am I in store for at the show next week, One Hot Second?” Well, that is a valid question – so here is a little taste. By the way, we won’t be doing this song.
Today, One Hot Second is pleased to bring you this press release:
NEW YORK, April 1st, 2013 – Comedy and parody acoustic rock trio, One Hot Second, has signed a deal to produce three separate music releases. The band, currently Number 4 on the comedy charts, is looking to make an even bigger splash in the comedy industry by teaming up with legendary parody song artist, Weird Al Yankovic, who will produce the albums.
“These guys have been bugging me on Twitter for a long time,” said Yankovic. “I finally gave in and listened to some of their stuff, and I was really surprised. Most of it didn’t suck!”
While no details have been solidified as to the nature of the releases, those close to the deal speculate that the first release will be One Hot Second Saves the Universe, the highly anticipated follow up to the band’s debut album One Hot Second Eats Your Breakfast! Logically, the band would follow that with another long awaited project, The Premature Immaculation, a collection of their most popular holiday themed songs, which hopefully will be in stores and available for download in time for the various holiday seasons.
Perhaps the biggest news is the collection of cover songs, Full Coverage, which will see the boys from Astoria, Queens teaming up with the musicians who wrote the originals songs. Artists already expressing interest in working with the band include Justin Timberlake, Phillip Glass, Dweezil Zappa (who will fill in for his late father, Frank), Phish, Hall and Oates, and former Smiths guitarist, Johnny Marr. When reached for comment, Marr stated, “When I hear these guys play Smiths songs, it sounds exactly like how I want to hear a Smiths song – without Morrissey!”
The normally reclusive band was hard to reach, as they are preparing for an upcoming show, but when news of the deal finally got through, front man C-Fate had this to say, “We were as surprised as anyone! Someone actually wants to pay us to do this stuff. For us, it was never about the money. But money is nice. We have some extensive bar tabs we need to settle!”
You can call us a lot of things – comedians, musicians, parody artists, drunks, lazy bastards, philanthropists…wait, what was that last one? Philanthropists? Yes, it’s true. One Hot Second is proud to be donating half of the proceeds from downloads of select songs in our music library to the Fender Music Foundation. The mission of the foundation is to “strengthen the state of music education, people who believe music is an integral part of society and want to make music more accessible to everyone.” Would you like to get behind that? Yeah, we thought you would.
How do you do it? Well, go to our Reverb Nation profile page and pick one of the songs with the red ribbon and the heart on it to download. This only works through our profile page, it won’t work if you purchase the download through the store on our website. Half of your purchase will be donated directly to charity. You get some great, funny tunes and you help out a worthy cause. It’s a win-win situation!
We also suggest following the Fender Music Foundation on Twitter and Facebook and spread the word via social media to your family and friends. What are you waiting for? Let’s raise some money for charity!
Yes, it is a little early for April Fool’s Day – one week away! But we managed to pull an April Fool’s joke on ourselves. Due to scheduling difficulties, we had to cancel our April Fool’s Day show. I know, it is very sad. But don’t worry! We are going to be featured in an article in Latency Magazine – check out their website here – and we are planning for a big show soon! Keep coming back for more news. Oh, and sorry about no April Fool’s Day show.
So, the magazine feature on us is being published on April 1st – we know what you are thinking and NO, this is not an April Fool’s joke. Things are actually picking up for us. And to give you a taste of what is to come, we are releasing our first parody album cover photo today! This is just the tip of the iceberg…just the tip…
If we decided to be a Bee Gees cover band, what would we call ourselves? The Bee Jays? What do you think?
Yea, we realize we are about a week late. What can we say – we’ve been drinking a lot! Here’s to 2013 – the year we go from obscurity to near obscurity!
